David Stanley Hewett
David Stanley Hewett is a contemporary artist based in Japan, whose works are deeply rooted in the cultural ideologies of his adopted home – most notably the samurai code of Bushido and Shinto religion. His reverence towards the spirit of Japanese craftsmanship can be seen from his artisanal background in Japanese painting, ceramics and folding screens. He is also an experienced Karate practitioner.
Deceptively simple at first glance, his paintings radiate an unmistakable sense of power that is tempered by an unexpected feeling of serenity. His works are displayed in numerous hotels in Tokyo. They are collected by corporations like Mitsubishi and Mitsui Corporation. He has been in Japan since 1988.
