Saian Nishikata
Saian Nishikata was born as the fourth generation of a traditional textile manufacturing family from Tochigi Prefecture, and grew up surrounded by craftsmen who specialized in weaving. She created her first artwork when she was in kindergarten, and grew up to continue exploring her artistic side. Nishikata makes use of ink, dyes and cloth to weave beautiful artworks that give viewers a warm feeling.
After hand-dyeing cloth with bright beautiful colors, she makes use of the traditional Japanese Yuzen technique to draw on details, enhancing the emotions conveyed through the work. A single artwork can take up to a few months to complete.
She has been selected to join the Tochigi art festival for 4 years in a row, and has exhibited internationally in Paris, New York, and Singapore.
